At the barber shop!

NEXT!, I hear my barber call out as I'm entering the door. There's about 8 people ahead of me and I'm just lucky I don't have to wait while standing. I grab the seat that a teenage kid leaves behind as he sits on the Barber shop chair. As I'm having a seat I think to myself... How could this kid (about 17 years of age) have more facial hair than I've ever had??? I look around and try to find some kind of distraction to focus on while I wait for my turn.. I look through the magazine rack and couldn't believe my eyes.... It wasn't because they have the most recent issue of "sports Illustrated" or because "men's journal" magazine has the top 20 ways of staying fit for the new years.... It's because they have "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" book by Eric Carle.

Just when I was starting to think that being a father couldn't affect my alone time.... I witnessed myself wondering "Why in the world is this little caterpillar so hungry?" Than it finally hit me! No matter what your doing or where you are, being a father is a full time job! More of a life style. I find myself speaking to my barber about how hard my son could hit my hand as he gives me high fives, how fast he could run as I try to chase him down for my phone...etc. He throws the concersation a curve ball when he than mentioned how hurt they felt to find out that I took my son to a different barber as they saw an instagram post of him getting his first pro hair cut posted by me (I had no idea my barber followed me on Instagram). I had to explain myself... "It was an unexpected visit" I mumble with rosey cheeks. Just goes to show you the power of social networks and to be careful what you write. Convenience is sometimes chosen over loyalty... But if your loyal you'll always go back to the shop that started it all. Josiah's next hair cut will be at Pico Barbershop and hope he's more relaxed than the last hair cut he recieved...

Shout out to the Pico barbers in Santa Monica always showing me love and never messing up on my hair!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Theres a scent of fresh tamales that fill the air. Everywhere we go they feed us till we can't get fed anymore. I love Christmas time! Since I got married it's been a tradition to visit the in laws with a bag full of gifts and leave with a different bag filled with gifts, go back to my parents house before midnight and wait for the clock to strike 12 to give everyone gathered around the Christmas tree a hug and wish them a merry Christmas. All the gifts that were wrapped in pretty paper are now being opened and nothing but joy is seen throughout the living room. I love being surrounded by happy people, Specially when I can see that one of the happiest in the bunch is my son little Josiah. (passed his bed time, he was awakened by laughter) He is quick to realize its OK to be awake and starts digging through the rubble while mommy guides him to all his gifts. What a blessing to be able to spend time with our loved ones as we share another Christmas together.
I took Josiah on a walk in the morning and decided to take a couple of pics with his new "Cars" sweater his Tio Gio got him and realized that this boy is growing way too fast. He see's a circle and calls it a "Bubble". He wrestles with me and loves when he wins but hates when he feels he has lost... His mind is like a sponge just absorbing everything and anything. Just wanna take a minute to thank god for another year and pray that 2012 keeps us safe and healthy. Here's a couple of pictures I took of Josiah this beautiful morning. Merry Christmas

Getting some rest before taking our walk.

Should we climb these stairs and get our cardio on?

You don't have to ask him twice!

My little Josiah 1 years of age going on 10.

Police Activities League's Portraits

I had just turned 16 and my Drivers permit had turned into an actual license (No more driving with mom and dad). Time to explore what the roads of California has to offer!! Those were the thoughts of a teenage boy who had dreams of taking off just because he had his little 1994 Honda Civic Hatchback and was the only one in his group of friends to have a car. (Incase you're wondering who I'm referring to, that was me) Fortunately for me there was PAL (The Police Activities League) which was my after school hang out spot. They have Pool tables, Basketball courts, Ping Pong Tournaments and even a boxing gym where I spent countless times cheering on buddies in the ring. ( I always stuck to the jump rope and punching bags) If it wasnt for a place like PAL I'm not too sure what my alternative hang out place would have been but one things for sure... I had a blast.
I have to give a special thanks to Mr. Don who for many years have been taking all these teenagers to Theme parks, Movies, Ice Skating, and has trained hundreds to run the L.A. Marathon every year. He's an inspiration to me and am sure he is to many others who have had the pleasure to meet him. I pitched him the idea of providing some portraits for the families of the kids who attend PAL and he coordinated the whole thing in no time! After a couple of calls back and fourth we finally filled up our roster and got 20+ families to come down on their saturday to take their portrait. I had a great time with each and every one of them and I hope they are pleased with the photo they get to unwrapp by Christmas.

Meet Mr. & Mrs. Lopez

I wrote about Sandra and Sergio a couple of blog posts ago while shareing a couple of Pre-Engagement Pictures ... We were anticipating the day of their wedding and oh boy how time passed us by. Before you know it I was all packed up and ready to capture their special day. A few days before their wedding I asked Siri (My handy dandy I-phone) what the weather was going to be like for their big day and she said "Light Showers". After hearing this I was a little concerned and was imagining the worse. We were going to be right by the beach in Palos Verdes and I knew that if it rained it would Pour out there. Luckily I knew that my good friend Nicolas Sage from Family Photo Day LA was going to be my assistant/second shooter and would be prepared for anything! LUKILY it was a gorgeous day. Bride was looking like a fairy tale princess and groom like a prince. We had a great time from start to finish and captured some great memories. Looking forward to creating their album and can't wait to see the look on their faces when it's done and delivered. Thank you Sandra and Sergio for allowing me to share your special day with you and your loved ones... Here are a couple of teasers....  Enjoy!

A great feeling...

Have you ever laid eyes on a picture that just uplifts your spirits at first glance? Well today was my lucky day!
A couple of blog posts ago I wrote about a logo design I created for a local girls softball little leagues team. Imagine my surprise when I see my creation come to life in the form of shirts. Well I just saw this picture that made my day... I'll let the picture do the rest of the talking as you'll see what I'm talking about.

Let's Go,  San Pedro Girls!!!!
